The Global Labour Institute in Manchester is a not-for-profit organisation, established in 2010 in cooperation with the Global Labour Institute in Switzerland and the Global Labor Institute at Cornell University (now Trade Unions for Energy Democracy), New York.
Together with the GLI Moscow (Praxis Centre), the four organisations form the GLI Network and share a commitment to democratic socialist principles.
We work closely with a range of global union federations, national trade unions, workers’ associations, development agencies, research institutions and workers’ education organisations. We are guided in our work by the GLI Advisory Board.
GLI Manchester is constituted as a not-for-profit company (GLI Network Ltd) limited by guarantee under UK law.
In common with our partner organisations, our purpose is to promote international solidarity among trade union organisations and between these and other organisations and movements of civil society with the objective of achieving a democratic and sustainable world society.
The GLI is a service organisation to the labour movement. It is guided by the values and principles of democratic socialism, and we share the analysis of the global challenges and tasks facing the labour movement outlined in the founding statement of GLI (Geneva).
GLI Manchester currently coordinates the GLI Network.
